Comparing the Tales

Here’s a quick comparison chart on the plot elements of each tale defined by Ashliman as 2033 and 20C. Since cumulative formula tales are plot intensive I thought it only appropriate to use the literary devices familiar in exploring how plot works in order to highlight the similarities and differences in each.

Note: I thought it best to compare the different tales in 20C and 2033 against each other first and then further compare the different versions of the specific tales separately.

The Scottish version of Henny-Penny is the most straightforward of the tales in this category. It is also the shortest and most commonly retold. There have been several picturebooks and modern parodies of this Henny-Penny tale. Click here to see a comparison chart.

A look at picture books!
